Short answer: The best St. Louis SEO companies in 2026 are Insite Advice (owner-led local and organic SEO with published pricing), Timmermann Group (larger SEO and paid search team), SteadyRain (enterprise sites and complex CMS platforms), Matchbox Design Group (WordPress builds for banks, associations and manufacturers) and JiggleFish (Google Business Profile work for local service businesses).
A quick disclosure before anything else: I’m Alex Wolk, and I’ve owned Insite Advice since 2002. Yes, my agency is listed first. I’d rather say that up front than pretend this is a neutral list. What I can promise is that every fact about every agency below comes from that agency’s own website or a public listing, with sources noted, and that I’ve written about competitors the way I’d want them to write about us. Plenty of these firms are good at what they do, and for some buyers one of them will be a better fit than we are. I’ll tell you which ones.
Most “best agency” lists you’ll find for St. Louis are written by out-of-town firms that rank themselves first and give everyone else a made-up score. Some of the agencies on those lists don’t even have an office here. This one sticks to agencies with a real St. Louis-area address and a dedicated SEO offering.
St. Louis SEO companies at a glance
| Rank | Agency | Best for | Location | Starting price (verified) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Insite Advice | Small and mid-sized local businesses that want the owner on the account | The Hill, St. Louis City | $1,500/month (range $1,500 to $3,500) |
| 2 | Timmermann Group | Businesses that want SEO and paid search from a larger in-house team | Midtown (Locust St.) and Creve Coeur | Not published |
| 3 | SteadyRain | Enterprise and regulated industries on DNN, Sitefinity or Umbraco | Brentwood area (Hanley Industrial Ct.) | Not published |
| 4 | Matchbox Design Group | Banks, credit unions, associations and manufacturers on WordPress | Downtown West (Locust St.) | $10,000+ minimum project (per Clutch) |
| 5 | JiggleFish | Home and local service businesses focused on Google Maps | Hampton Ave., St. Louis City | Not published |
| 6 | Digital Strike | Companies that want a search-first agency covering SEO and PPC | Webster Groves | Not published |
| 7 | Seafoam | Mid-market firms that want SEO tied to revenue operations | Maplewood (Sutton Blvd.) | Not published |
| 8 | Hexxen | Law firms and companies that need SEO plus custom development | Downtown West (Locust St.) | Not published |
| 9 | Atomicdust | B2B brands that need branding and demand generation first | Midtown (Locust St.) | Not published |
| 10 | Abstrakt Marketing Group | B2B trade and service companies pairing SEO with outbound sales | Laclede’s Landing | Not published |
“Not published” means exactly that. Most agencies quote after a call, which is normal. I didn’t guess.
How we evaluated St. Louis SEO companies
There’s no secret scoring algorithm here. I looked at the things a business owner can check for themselves in an afternoon, and I left out anything I couldn’t confirm.
- A real local address. Every agency listed publishes a street address in the St. Louis metro. National firms with a city landing page were left out.
- A dedicated SEO service. SEO had to be something the agency sells on its own, described on its own page, rather than a line item under web design.
- Published proof. Named clients, case studies with numbers, or testimonials tied to real businesses. Anonymous “we grew a client 300%” claims count for less.
- Pricing and contract transparency. Whether you can learn what it costs and how you get out before you sign anything.
- Who does the work. Whether you’ll talk to the people doing the strategy or to a sales layer in between.
- Clear fit. How obvious it is which kind of business each agency serves best. A good agency for a regional bank is not automatically a good agency for a roofer.
I did not use review counts as a ranking factor. Review volume mostly reflects how hard an agency asks for reviews, and the numbers shift weekly.
The best St. Louis SEO companies in 2026
1. Insite Advice
Best for: Local businesses, professional practices and B2B companies with roughly one to a few service lines that want the agency owner setting strategy and reading their reports. If you’ve been handed off to a junior account rep before and hated it, this is the model built to avoid that.
Insite Advice has been doing St. Louis web design and search marketing since 2002 from 2122 Marconi Ave on The Hill. The team is small on purpose: me, a project manager, two account managers and a designer/developer. I scope every engagement, set the strategy and review the monthly report myself.
Here’s why I’m comfortable putting us first, in concrete terms:
- Pricing is published. St. Louis SEO engagements run $1,500 to $3,500 a month, depending on how many keywords you’re targeting and how competitive your industry is. Few agencies on this list put a number on their site.
- No long-term contract. Month to month, 30 days’ notice. Content published to your site stays yours, and your Google Business Profile, Search Console and Analytics accounts were always yours.
- Local results with real numbers. A St. Louis law firm, Niesen, McDonough & Niesen, went from top-three map visibility at a single point (their own office) to top-three placement across 87% of the tracked metro in under four months. Mackler Associates, an ACT and SAT tutoring practice, reached 92% top-three map coverage across the metro, including Chesterfield, Creve Coeur and Kirkwood.
- Reporting that doesn’t inflate. Our Local Ranker platform pulls Google Business Profile, Search Console, Analytics and lead data into one monthly report. We report contacts, not “qualified leads,” because we don’t talk to your leads and can’t honestly judge which ones qualified.
- Full scope under one roof. Technical SEO, Google Business Profile management, content (typically two to four pages a month), link building and local citations, plus web design when the site itself is the problem.
Where we’re not the right fit: if you need a 20-person team, a Fortune 500 procurement process or deep work on an enterprise CMS like Sitefinity, look at SteadyRain or Timmermann Group below. We serve St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County and Jefferson County, and engagements have extended into Metro East. You can reach us at 314-621-6888 or start with a free SEO audit.
2. Timmermann Group
Best for: Companies that want SEO and paid search run by a larger in-house team with a long client roster. Its published case studies span manufacturing, legal, automotive and home services, and it can handle organic, PPC and the website in one engagement.
Timmermann Group lists 2003 as its founding year and runs offices on Locust Street in Midtown and on Olive Boulevard in Creve Coeur. Its SEO offering covers technical work, content and what it calls a “Rankings to Revenue” process, with AI search listed as a separate service. The agency names clients and case studies publicly, including Simon Law, Telle Tire & Auto Centers, Tacony Corporation and the St. Louis Area Foodbank. Its site lists recognition from Inc. 5000, the Hermes Creative Awards and St. Louis Business Journal rankings. If you want more people on your account than a boutique can offer, Timmermann is one of the most established options in town.
3. SteadyRain
Best for: Larger organizations in health care, education and banking whose websites run on enterprise platforms. If your SEO problems are tangled up with a DNN, Sitefinity or Umbraco build, SteadyRain has the development depth to fix both.
SteadyRain is an employee-owned digital agency at 543 Hanley Industrial Court in the Brentwood area. It’s as much a development shop as a marketing one, with dedicated practices for DNN, WordPress, Sitefinity and Umbraco, plus web applications, intranets and eCommerce. Its SEO service covers technical fixes, information architecture, content briefs and authority building, and it offers local SEO, paid search and AI consulting alongside. SteadyRain also announced its acquisition of the development firm Smooth Fusion. For a small local business it’s likely more agency than you need; for a complex site it’s one of the safer bets here.
4. Matchbox Design Group
Best for: Banks, credit unions, professional associations and manufacturers that need a well-built WordPress site and ongoing SEO from the same team. It also stands out for web accessibility work, which matters a lot in financial services.
Matchbox works out of 1501 Locust Street in Downtown West and says it has been doing web strategy for more than 19 years. Its SEO engagements start with a 30-day audit and implementation sprint, then cover on-page, off-page, technical and local SEO plus AI optimization. Named clients on its site include Midwest BankCentre and Delmar Gardens. According to its Clutch profile, its minimum project size is $10,000+, so it fits mid-sized organizations better than very small businesses.
5. JiggleFish
Best for: Home and local service businesses (landscapers, tree services, contractors) whose leads come from Google Maps and reviews. If your phone ringing is the only metric you care about, JiggleFish builds around exactly that.
JiggleFish is a family-owned agency at 1118 Hampton Avenue in the city, run by partners Chad and David, who say they’ve worked together since 2007. Its services are focused: Google Business Profile management, review management, local SEO, lead generation, websites and drone video. New clients start with a 12-month “Growth Plan,” and the agency notes it partners with Umbrella Local for those consultations. It’s a narrower offering than a full-service firm, which is the point.
6. Digital Strike
Best for: Businesses that want a search-first agency, where SEO and paid search are the core rather than add-ons to branding work. A reasonable choice for companies that want organic, local SEO and Google Ads under one roof.
Digital Strike, officially Digital Strike – Targeted Marketing, is based at 8793 Big Bend Boulevard in Webster Groves. It describes itself as a search-focused agency and offers organic SEO, local SEO, AI search optimization, content marketing, PPC, paid social and email. Its site includes case studies, testimonials and a dedicated reporting service. I couldn’t verify a founding year or pricing, so I’ve left those out.
7. Seafoam
Best for: Established mid-market companies that want SEO treated as one part of a bigger revenue system, alongside CRM, marketing automation and customer experience. Less of a fit if you just want local rankings.
Seafoam (Seafoam Media) is at 2732 Sutton Boulevard in Maplewood and says it has been in business for 16 years. Its “SEO & AI Search” service pairs traditional technical and on-page SEO with generative engine optimization and topical authority work, and it emphasizes measuring pipeline over rankings. The agency displays St. Louis Small Business Monthly awards for each year from 2017 through 2026. Its strength is strategy across the whole funnel, with SEO as one lever.
8. Hexxen
Best for: Law firms, home services and health care companies that need SEO alongside custom development, apps or API work. If your project is part marketing, part software, Hexxen covers both.
Hexxen is the agency formerly known as Web Design and Company, which announced its rebrand in August 2024 as it expanded from local St. Louis work to national clients. It’s located at 2315 Locust Street in Downtown West. Services include SEO, local SEO, WordPress and full-stack development, and the firm names clients such as Combs Waterkotte and Counsilman-Hunsaker on its site. If you’ve seen “Web Design and Company” on older St. Louis lists, this is the same firm.
9. Atomicdust
Best for: B2B companies in professional services, A/E/C, manufacturing, health care and finance that need their brand and message sorted out before SEO can do much. SEO here sits inside a broader branding and demand generation program.
Atomicdust, founded in 2001 according to its site, is at 3021 Locust Street in Midtown. It’s best known as a branding agency, and its digital marketing practice covers search visibility in Google and AI answers, account-based marketing, lifecycle email and paid media, with an SEO audit offered as a starting point. If your real problem is that nobody remembers your company, Atomicdust is a better first call than a pure SEO shop.
10. Abstrakt Marketing Group
Best for: B2B trade and service companies (HVAC, IT and managed services, logistics, construction) that want SEO bundled with appointment setting and outbound sales. This is a sales-pipeline company first and an SEO agency second.
Abstrakt, founded in 2009 per its site, is headquartered at 701 N. 1st Street on Laclede’s Landing. Its core business is B2B lead generation: SDR teams, cold calling, cold email and LinkedIn outreach. Its digital marketing arm handles SEO, PPC, web design and local search. The company lists a long run of workplace and marketing awards, including repeated Inc. 5000 appearances. If you mostly need organic leads from a local market, a dedicated SEO agency will likely give you more focus.
How to choose a St. Louis SEO company
The right agency depends on your business, not on who’s ranked first. These are the questions I’d ask any agency, including mine.
- Who will actually work on my account? Ask for names. Ask whether the person who pitched you will be in the monthly meetings.
- What does it cost, and what’s included each month? “It depends” is fine on the first call. By the proposal, you should know the monthly fee, the deliverables and the number of pages or fixes you’ll get.
- How do I get out? Month-to-month or a 6 or 12 month term? Who owns the content, the website and the Google accounts if you leave? You should own all of it.
- Can you show results in my kind of business? A firm that does great work for banks may not know how a plumber in Fenton gets calls. Ask for a case study or reference in your industry.
- How do you handle local search across the metro? Clayton, Chesterfield, St. Charles and South City behave like different markets in Google Maps. An agency that only tracks rankings from your office address is missing most of the picture.
- What gets reported? Look for map visibility, organic traffic and contacts (calls and form fills) in one place. Be wary of reports that are all impressions and “keywords tracked.”
One more tip: be skeptical of guarantees. No one can guarantee a #1 ranking or a spot in an AI Overview, and any agency that does is either selling something else or setting you up for disappointment.
Frequently asked questions
How much does SEO cost in St. Louis?
Few St. Louis agencies publish their rates, so most quotes come after a consultation. Insite Advice plans run $1,500 to $3,500 a month based on keyword scope and how competitive your industry is, while some larger firms set minimums well above that (Matchbox lists a $10,000+ minimum project on Clutch). Multi-location and enterprise programs generally cost more than single-location local SEO.
How long does SEO take to work?
Expect measurable keyword movement in about 3 to 6 months and meaningful organic traffic growth in 6 to 12 months. Google Maps visibility often moves faster, sometimes within a few months. Competitive industries, newer domains and sites with technical problems take longer.
Should I hire a local St. Louis SEO agency or a national one?
If most of your customers are in the St. Louis area, a local agency usually has the edge because it understands how search differs between places like Clayton, St. Charles and South County. National agencies can make sense for e-commerce or companies selling across the country. Either way, confirm the agency has a real office here and not just a city landing page.
What’s the difference between local SEO and organic SEO?
Local SEO targets searches with a location attached, including the Google Maps results and the local pack. Organic SEO is the broader work of ranking your website in regular search results. Most St. Louis businesses need both, and neither works well on a site with technical problems. Our local SEO page goes into more detail.
Do SEO agencies lock you into long contracts?
Some do, often 6 to 12 months. Others, including Insite Advice, work month to month with 30 days’ notice. Whatever the terms, make sure the contract says you own your content, website and Google accounts.
Does SEO still matter with AI Overviews and ChatGPT?
Yes. AI search tools pull heavily from pages that are already well structured, well cited and trusted, which is what good SEO produces. The fundamentals of technical health, clear content that answers real questions, structured data and local authority are the same things that get a business mentioned in AI answers.
What should I have ready before hiring an SEO company?
You’ll need access to your website, plus Google Analytics, Search Console and a Google Business Profile if you serve customers locally. A good agency will set up anything that’s missing. It also helps to know which services and areas matter most to your revenue.
The bottom line
St. Louis has a deep bench of SEO firms, and most of the agencies above would do honest work for the right client. If you’re an enterprise on a complex CMS, call SteadyRain. If you want a bigger team handling SEO and paid together, Timmermann Group. If you’re a bank or association, Matchbox. If you’re a contractor living and dying by Google Maps, JiggleFish is worth a conversation.
If you’re a St. Louis business that wants published pricing, no long contract and the owner of the agency reading your numbers every month, that’s what we built Insite Advice to do. Call 314-621-6888 or get in touch for a free consultation and market analysis.
