How I scored these firms in October 2026

I checked every firm on this list against the same scorecard, using only what each firm publishes on its own website — no directory profiles, no review sites. Here’s the scorecard, so you can re-rank these firms for your own situation:

  • A real St. Louis office. A street address in the metro, published on the firm’s own site.
  • Injury work is the core practice. I favored firms where personal injury is the main event, not a side line next to unrelated work.
  • A track record here. How long the firm — and the attorneys who will handle your case — have practiced in St. Louis.
  • You work with an attorney. Whether clients deal directly with a lawyer, or get passed to case managers and intake staff.
  • Missouri and Illinois coverage. Plenty of metro crashes happen across the river, so practicing in both states matters.
  • Fees stated up front. Free consultations, and contingency terms the firm explains on its own site before you ever call.

One more rule: I left out star ratings, awards and verdict dollar figures. Ratings swing week to week, and anything I couldn’t verify on a firm’s own website doesn’t belong in a ranking. Every fact below was checked against the firm’s own website in October 2026 — where a firm doesn’t publish something, the entry says so.

1. NMN Injury Law (Niesen, McDonough & Niesen)

Best for: Injured people who want a family firm with deep downtown roots.

NMN Injury Law is the Law Offices of Niesen, McDonough & Niesen, a family firm in the Security Building at 319 North Fourth Street, Suite 200, in downtown St. Louis (63102). Its attorneys are Frank J. Niesen Jr., Frank J. Niesen III, Mark G. Niesen and Michael D. McDonough. Frank J. Niesen Jr. has practiced law in the City of St. Louis since 1977, and the firm cites more than 100 combined years of legal experience.

  • Practice areas: car, truck and motorcycle accidents; pedestrian and bicycle crashes; hit-and-run and DUI-victim cases; burn, brain and electrical injuries; slip-and-falls; and wrongful death.
  • Where it practices: Missouri and Illinois, including crashes on I-270, I-64 and other St. Louis highways.
  • How it works: the firm says it limits its caseload so each client gets personal attention, works with medical experts and accident reconstruction specialists, and prepares cases for trial when insurers won’t offer a fair settlement.
  • Access: free consultations, weekday office hours plus Saturday mornings by appointment, and Bosnian, Serbian and Croatian interpreters.

Why it’s #1: It’s a downtown family firm with nearly five decades of local practice behind it, a focused injury caseload, interpreters for the city’s Bosnian community, and Missouri and Illinois coverage. Phone: (314) 312-3740.

2. Goldblatt + Singer

Best for: People who want one of the city’s longest-running injury practices.

Goldblatt + Singer traces its start to 1949, when founding partners Milton Fox, Samuel Goldblatt and Tom Singer set up shop in the Title Guaranty Building (now the Peabody Building) in downtown St. Louis. The firm is led today by managing partner Jeff Singer — Tom Singer’s son, who took over when his father retired in 2003 — with 15 attorneys listed on its site. Its office is at 8182 Maryland Avenue, Suite 801 (63105).

  • Practice areas: personal injury, including serious injury claims, wrongful death, motor vehicle and trucking collisions, falls, defective products and complex injury litigation.
  • Where it practices: Missouri, and — per its managing partner’s profile — Illinois as well.
  • How it works: the firm prepares every claim as though it could reach a jury, employs former insurance defense attorneys who know how insurers evaluate claims, and emphasizes personal attention and open communication.
  • Access: free consultation and case evaluation; “No Recovery, No Fee” — in the firm’s words, unless it secures a favorable verdict, “you don’t pay a dime.”

Why it ranks here: One of the longest-running injury practices in the city, now in its second generation of Singers, with trial preparation and insurer-side experience built into how it works cases. Phone: (314) 231-4100.

3. Gray Ritter Graham

Best for: Serious injury cases alongside class action and business litigation.

Gray Ritter Graham works from 701 Market St., Suite 800, in downtown St. Louis (63101). • Practice areas: personal injury; car, truck and aviation accidents; medical malpractice; wrongful death and catastrophic injury; product liability; premises liability; railroad and river worker accidents; class actions and mass torts; commercial and agricultural litigation.

Why it ranks here: The broadest practice mix on this list — a serious-injury firm that also runs class actions and business litigation, with a stated team-and-experts model for building cases. Phone: 314-241-5620.

  • Where it practices: Missouri and Illinois, and nationwide.
  • How it works: you work one-on-one with an attorney when preparing and litigating your case — the firm is small and family-based by design — and the firm advances case costs, including expert witness payments.
  • Access: free consultations, with the first consultation running one to two hours at no charge and no obligation; contingency fee — in the firm’s words, “if you don’t get paid, neither do we.”

Why it ranks here: Six decades in practice, a deliberate small-firm model where an attorney handles your case personally, and a case list — aviation, pharmaceuticals, asbestos — that most injury-only firms don’t touch. Phone: (314) 878-8200.

Its St. Louis office is at 4900 Daggett Ave. (63110), with other metro offices in St. Charles, Arnold, Ferguson and O’Fallon, and in Edwardsville and Fairview Heights in Illinois.

  • How it works: the firm says it prepares every case as if it will go to trial from day one, handles cases from start to finish, and keeps clients updated on what’s next.

7. The Hoffmann Law Firm

Best for: Clayton-area clients with vehicle crash or catastrophic injury cases.

The Hoffmann Law Firm has handled motor vehicle injury cases in St. Louis since 1998 — and only motor vehicle cases. Founding attorney Christopher S. Hoffmann runs the practice from 130 S. Bemiston Ave., Suite 603, in Clayton (63105), and every case is his.

  • Practice areas: car, truck and motorcycle accidents; pedestrian and bicycle accidents; Uber and Lyft crashes; hit-and-run cases; catastrophic injuries, including spinal cord and brain injuries and burns; wrongful death.
  • Where it practices: St. Louis and throughout Missouri (the firm’s site states Missouri only).

  • Access: free consultation and case review; contingency — no fee unless the firm recovers compensation for you.

Why it ranks here: The narrowest focus on this list — one attorney, one metro, vehicle cases only, since 1998 — for clients who want the lawyer they hire to be the lawyer who does the work. Phone: (314) 361-4242.

8. Roach Law

Best for: Car and truck accident victims who want a firm that limits its caseload.

  • Where it practices: Missouri and Illinois — Roach and fellow attorney Brian Burge are each licensed in both states.
  • How it works: the firm intentionally limits the number of cases it accepts each year, and Kevin Roach personally oversees every case; every case is prepared as though litigation is possible, with medical, financial and accident reconstruction experts consulted.
  • Access: free consultation; contingency fee — the firm’s own FAQ puts the typical share at 33% to 40% of the recovery, agreed up front, with no legal fees if the case doesn’t win.

Why it ranks here: A deliberate small-caseload model on serious cases, a founder who personally oversees each one, and attorneys licensed on both sides of the river. Phone: (636) 519-0085 (the number the firm publishes for its St. Louis office).

  • Where it practices: St. Louis, throughout Missouri, and nationwide.

  • Access: free consultations, including virtual consultations; 24/7 availability; no upfront fees stated on its defective-drug cases. (The firm’s site lists “Contingency Fee” pricing without fuller published terms.)

Why it ranks here: The list’s specialist in defective drug and device cases against large corporations, running a nationwide docket from a downtown St. Louis office. Phone: 314-241-1919.

How to choose a personal injury attorney in St. Louis

Ask who will handle your case

At some firms the attorney you meet hands your file to a case manager. Ask who your day-to-day contact will be, and who would try the case if it goes to court.

Understand the fee agreement

Most injury lawyers work on contingency. Ask what percentage applies before and after a lawsuit is filed, how case costs are paid, and whether costs come out before or after the fee.

Check experience with your type of case

A truck crash, a medical malpractice claim and a slip-and-fall need different evidence and experts. Ask how often the firm handles cases like yours.

Missouri vs. Illinois

If your accident happened in the Metro East or you live across the river, make sure the attorney is licensed in the state where the claim will be filed.

Act early

Evidence like video footage and vehicle data can disappear fast, and filing deadlines apply. Getting advice soon after an injury keeps more options open.

Red flags

  • Someone promises a specific settlement amount at the first meeting.
  • You’re contacted out of the blue by a “runner” after an accident.
  • The firm won’t put the fee agreement in writing.
  • You can’t get a straight answer about who is working on your case.

Frequently asked questions

Who are the best personal injury attorneys in St. Louis?

NMN Injury Law (Niesen, McDonough & Niesen) is our top pick for 2026: a downtown family firm whose senior attorney has practiced in St. Louis since 1977, with a focused injury caseload across Missouri and Illinois. Goldblatt + Singer, Gray Ritter Graham, Newman Bronson & Wallis and Mogab & Hughes are other notable firms with decades of local history.

How much does a personal injury lawyer cost in St. Louis?

Most personal injury attorneys work on a contingency fee, meaning they are paid a percentage of any recovery and nothing if there is none. Percentages and how case costs are handled vary, so get the fee agreement in writing before you sign.

How long do I have to file a personal injury lawsuit in Missouri?

Missouri’s general deadline for personal injury claims is five years, but wrongful death, medical malpractice and claims against government entities have shorter deadlines, and Illinois’s general deadline is two years. Talk to a lawyer early so a deadline doesn’t pass.

Does Missouri use comparative fault?

Yes. Missouri follows pure comparative fault, so your recovery can be reduced by your share of fault but is not barred entirely. Illinois uses a modified rule that bars recovery if you are more than 50% at fault.

Should I talk to the other driver’s insurance company?

You can report the basic facts, but avoid recorded statements, guesses about fault or signing releases before talking with an attorney. Early settlement offers often come before the full cost of treatment is known.

What should I bring to a free consultation?

Bring the police or incident report, photos, medical records and bills, insurance information, any letters from insurers, and a list of witnesses. Notes on missed work and how the injury affects daily life also help.
