Short answer: The best pool and spa supply St. Louis homeowners can get in 2026 comes from local, independent stores. Start with R&S Pool & Spa in Maryland Heights, which has a large parts warehouse, free water testing, in-house equipment repair and hot tub sales. Four Seasons Pool (St. Charles and Wentzville), Baker Pool & Spa (Chesterfield) and Pool King Recreation (South County and O’Fallon) are also worth a visit. If you live in Metro East, look at Munie Leisure in Swansea and Oasis Pool Center in Wood River.
This guide compares the pool and spa supply St. Louis pool and hot tub owners can visit in person. It covers chemicals, replacement parts, filters, salt systems, hot tubs, water testing, and the openings, closings and repairs that come with a Missouri swim season. We favored locally owned stores and left out the big national chains. Every store below had a live website and an operating storefront when we checked in October 2026.
Every fact on this page comes from the store’s own website or a public source, and we logged each source by URL. When a store publishes prices or water-chemistry targets, we quote them as published. When it doesn’t, we don’t guess. Google ratings are shown as of the noted date (October 2026) and aren’t part of the ranking. Hours, prices and brands change from season to season, so call before you drive across town.

How we ranked pool and spa supply stores in St. Louis
- Parts and equipment on the shelf. When a pump seal fails in July, the store that has the part today beats the one that has to order it. We gave credit to stores that stock pumps, filters, heaters, salt cells and replacement parts, not just chemicals and floats.
- Water testing. Free in-store water testing is the most useful service a pool store offers. Stores that publish what they test for (free and total chlorine, pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness, cyanuric acid, salt, phosphates) ranked higher.
- Repair and service. We looked for in-house repair benches for pumps and robotic cleaners, authorized warranty service, and service crews for openings, closings, liners and leaks.
- Hot tub sales and support. Many St. Louis families own a hot tub instead of, or along with, a pool. We noted which brands each store sells and services, and whether it stocks filters and covers.
- Local ownership and coverage. We favored independent, locally owned stores and spread the list across St. Louis County, St. Charles County, Jefferson County and Metro East.
- Clear information. Stores that post addresses, phone numbers, prices or care guidance on their own sites got the edge over those that don’t.
- Google ratings. Where we show a Google rating, it is as of the noted date (October 2026), and it isn’t part of the ranking.

How to choose a pool and spa supply store in St. Louis
Plan around the St. Louis pool season
St. Louis pools follow a short, busy calendar. R&S, for example, describes March through May as its opening season. Stores are crowded and service calendars fill up then, so book your opening early. Fall closings run the other way. Water has to be lowered, lines blown out and winterized, and equipment drained before hard freezes, because water left in pipes, pumps and filters can crack them. If you close your own pool, buy your winterizing chemicals, plugs and cover parts before the October rush, and ask your store which steps it would leave to a technician.
Hot tubs run year-round, so winter is when they’re most exposed. R&S’s advice if a heater fails during a cold snap: don’t drain the tub, and keep the cover on while you wait for a repair. That’s a good reason to pick a store with a service department that works in winter.
Use free water testing, and bring a good sample
Free water testing is the best deal in pool and spa supply St. Louis stores offer, and most stores on this list do it. Take your sample from about elbow depth, away from the return jets, in a clean bottle, and bring it in soon after. A good test covers free and total chlorine (or bromine), pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness and cyanuric acid (stabilizer). Salt pools also need a salt reading, and phosphates and metals matter if you’re fighting algae or staining. Munie and Baker publish exactly what they test. Ask any store for a printout so you can track changes over the season.
How often? Baker suggests at least every two weeks and Munie at least monthly, plus a quick home test-strip check between visits.
Know your equipment before you shop
Take a photo of your pump, filter, heater and salt cell labels, including the brand, model and serial number, before you drive to the store. Better yet, bring the old part. Many repairs come down to a seal, an O-ring, a filter cartridge or a salt cell, and having the exact part number saves a second trip. Stores with a repair bench, like R&S, Four Seasons, Pool King and Just Pools, can tell you whether a pump or robotic cleaner is worth fixing before you buy a new one.
Chlorine, salt or something else?
Most St. Louis pools use chlorine, either added by hand or made from salt by a chlorine generator. Salt pools still need chlorine, pH and stabilizer testing, and the cell needs periodic cleaning. Four Seasons and Mirage both service salt cells. If you use a non-chlorine system such as Baquacil, stay with a store that stocks it, like Pool King, because Baquacil’s EPA-registered label says it isn’t compatible with chlorine or other chlorinating products, including salt chlorinators. Whatever you use, read and follow the label on every chemical. Store them cool, dry and sealed, keep acids and chlorine apart, and never mix products in the same bucket.
Buying a hot tub
Buy the store as much as the brand. The dealer that sells your tub usually handles warranty service, stocks your filters and covers, and comes out when a heater or control board fails. Before you buy, ask the dealer:
- Can I test soak the model I’m considering? (R&S and Baker both offer test soaks.)
- Who does warranty service: your own technicians or a subcontractor?
- What electrical service does this tub need? R&S notes that premium tubs typically need a dedicated 240-volt GFCI circuit, so budget for an electrician.
- Do you keep filters and covers for this model in stock?
Draining a pool or hot tub in St. Louis
Don’t just open the drain. MSD Project Clear asks homeowners to stop adding chlorine for several days so it can dissipate, and to drain only water that isn’t cloudy, discolored, full of algae or loaded with sediment. Drain on your own property toward a drainage channel, storm inlet or curb gutter at a controlled rate, without causing erosion or a nuisance for neighbors. See MSD’s pool and spa tips for the details, and check your municipality’s rules.
Red flags
- A store that sells you a cart full of chemicals without testing your water first.
- No printout or written results, so you can’t tell what changed between visits.
- Pushing a new pump or cleaner without checking whether the old one can be repaired.
- A hot tub dealer that can’t say who handles warranty service or where its technicians are based.
- Service plans or opening prices that aren’t in writing before the work starts.
Bottom line: For the pool and spa supply St. Louis owners need most, start with R&S Pool & Spa in Maryland Heights for parts, repairs, water testing and hot tubs under one roof. In St. Charles County, add Four Seasons Pool. In West County, try Baker Pool & Spa, and in South County, Pool King Recreation. Metro East owners have Munie Leisure and Oasis Pool Center close by.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best pool and spa supply store in St. Louis?
R&S Pool & Spa in Maryland Heights is our top pick for 2026. It has a large parts warehouse, free computerized water testing, an in-house repair shop that also fixes equipment for other pool companies, Nordic and Marquis hot tubs, and published service-plan prices. Four Seasons Pool, Baker Pool & Spa and Pool King Recreation are strong choices in St. Charles County, West County and South County.
Where can I get pool water tested for free in St. Louis?
Most stores on this list test water for free. R&S Pool & Spa, Four Seasons Pool, Baker Pool & Spa, Pool King Recreation, Mirage Spa Service and Supply, Munie Leisure and Oasis Pool Center all offer free in-store water testing. Bring a clean sample taken from elbow depth, away from the return jets, and ask for a printout of the results.
When should I open and close my pool in St. Louis?
Most St. Louis openings happen in spring. R&S Pool & Spa describes March through May as its opening season, and service calendars fill up quickly then. Close the pool and winterize the lines and equipment before hard freezes set in. Water left in pipes, pumps and filters can freeze and crack them, so book your closing early in the fall.
How often should I test my pool water?
Use home test strips or a test kit between store visits, and get a full store test regularly. Baker Pool & Spa recommends testing at least once every two weeks, and Munie Leisure recommends bringing in a sample at least once a month. Test more often after heavy rain, a pool party or a heat wave.
What chemical levels should a hot tub have?
R&S Pool & Spa recommends keeping spa pH between 7.2 and 7.8, with bromine at 3 to 5 ppm or chlorine at 1 to 3 ppm. It also suggests draining and refilling a hot tub every three to four months. Follow the label on every chemical you add, and ask your store to test the water if readings look off.
How often should I replace my hot tub filter?
R&S Pool & Spa suggests rinsing a hot tub filter every two weeks, soaking it in filter cleaner every three months and replacing it every 12 to 18 months. Bring the old filter or its part number to the store so you get an exact match.
Can I drain my pool into the street in St. Louis?
MSD Project Clear asks homeowners to stop adding chlorine for several days before draining so it can dissipate, and not to drain water that is cloudy, discolored, full of algae or heavy with sediment. Drain on your own property toward a drainage channel, storm inlet or curb gutter at a controlled rate, without causing erosion or a nuisance. Check your municipality’s rules as well.
Should I repair or replace my pool pump?
It depends on the pump’s age, the part that failed and the cost of the repair. Many failures come down to a seal, bearing or motor that can be repaired. Stores with repair benches, such as R&S Pool & Spa, Four Seasons Pool (which lists a $100 pump bench fee), Pool King Recreation and Just Pools, can diagnose the pump before you buy a new one.
